Rishi has seen work on Catterick Garrison’s new Integrated Care Centre reach a major construction milestone with the completion of the steel frame of the building.
The MP visited the site where the £110m, 12,000m2 centre is being built in a joint Ministry of Defence/NHS project.
He was briefed by the teams involved in the ground-breaking project before climbing to the roof of the three-storey structure to sign part of the structural steelwork.
Once complete, the building will host medical services for military personnel based at Catterick Garrison, as well as primary and community NHS services for members of the public and military families across Richmondshire.
Tilbury Douglas started construction earlier this year. The next stage is attaching external cladding and curtain walls before installing the roof. The building should be wind and weatherproof early in 2025 when work will begin on the interior of the building. It is due to open in 2026.
Rishi, who backed the business case for funding the centre, said: “This is the biggest single investment in healthcare in this area and will make a big difference to the quality of health services in the Garrison, which continues to grow, and wider Richmondshire.
“As a joint project on such a large scale, this is a first for the NHS and the MoD. It will deliver better medical services for Army personnel, their families and the civilian population of Richmond, Catterick and the Dales – bringing those services closer to home in many cases and avoiding travelling long distances to access healthcare.”
Wendy Balmain, North Yorkshire Place Director for the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said: “We are delighted to see the building starting to take shape. The CICC will become a centre of excellence and a model of best practice for integrated primary care both within our region and nationally, with integrated services available to military personnel and local residents to help them stay healthy and well.”
The local NHS GP practice (Harewood Medical Practice) will be housed in the CICC along with the GP out of hours service. This service will continue to be accessible and available to all patients across Hambleton and Richmondshire when their own practice is closed. In addition to core general practice delivery patients will be able to see first contact mental health workers, physiotherapists, pharmacists, social prescribers and care home coordinators.
