Rishi has visited a golf club leading the way in promoting the sport among women and young people.
Richmond (Yorks) Golf Club welcomed the MP to its clubhouse and course to explain how the club is driving membership.
Earlier this year, the club’s exceptional performance was recognised when it was featured by the sport’s governing body in a nationwide promotional campaign.
The club has succeeded in increasing both the number of women and junior players by reaching out into the local community and holding free taster days.
During his visit, Rishi met some of the 30 new women members that have joined the club recently and also got the chance to improve his putting technique with the club’s Head PGA Professional Aaron Cox.
He said: “It is very encouraging to see the club making such good progress in widening the appeal of golf and building its membership base.
“The club has excellent facilities, including the indoor swing studio which I had a privilege of opening a few years ago, and more people are being recruited by the club. It’s a great set-up.”
Among the members Rishi met was Dr Ian Mains, the Club’s Membership Director. He said: "The Golf Club was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to update him on our membership recruitment and retention programme, supported by England Golf. This has been particularly successful with attracting new ladies and juniors into golf."
