Adult learners based at Just the Job in Richmond celebrated their achievements and received certificates from Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond, at a celebration event on Friday, 20 May.
The learners are members of Just the Job, a charity and social enterprise that empowers adults to reach their potential through work-based training and learning opportunities in their community.
All completed training in NCFE occupational studies in the workplace, which includes garden maintenance skills, problem solving, building confidence, health and safety, working as a volunteer and as a member of a team.
The celebration event at the charity's base on the Gallowfields Trading Estate was organised for the first time by North Yorkshire County Council to recognise and celebrate the achievement, effort and dedication of the adult learners in Richmondshire. It coincides with the national Festival of Learning (formally known as Adult Learners Week), which runs throughout May and June and brings together organisations across the country to offer thousands of opportunities for people to learn something new.
North Yorkshire County Councillor Arthur Barker, Executive Member for Adult Learning and Skills, said: “It’s great to see learners developing new skills, achieving qualifications and contributing to their local community, whilst also benefiting the local environment.”
Presenting their certificates, Rishi said: “I have heard of the tremendous work done by Just the Job, so I was delighted to vist its base in Richmond and have the opportunity to present the learners with their certificates. The evident pride in their achievement was great to see. I was honoured to be a part of a very special occasion.”
Tracy Mann, occupational studies teacher from the Adult Learning and Skills Service, said:
“I have seen massive growth in confidence and ability. We started slowly but once their confidence grew, they became really dedicated and committed; the occupational skills units are gained during their work hours, confirming that they know their stuff. It has been a real pleasure working with Just the Job members.”
