BUSINESSES in North Yorkshire are being offered a masterclass in using the internet to turbo-charge their growth.
The touring Google Digital Garage will arrive in Richmondshire on Friday, November 27, to give local businesses the chance to attend a free masterclass and learn crucial skills for the digital age.
Experts from Google will run a seminar and one-to-one mentoring sessions that offers advice and tips to local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs on making the Internet a growth engine for their business.
The event is being co-hosted by Richmond MP Rishi Sunak, Hambleton District Council, Richmondshire District Council and Superfast North Yorkshire.
The tour is part of Google’s Digital Garage project – a commitment to provide digital skills training to 200,000 small businesses across the UK by the end of 2016. Government research shows that SMEs with a strong web presence grow more than twice as quickly as competitors, create more than twice as many jobs, and are 50% more likely to sell outside of their immediate region.
By encouraging and supporting a variety of businesses to use the Internet effectively, from entrepreneurs and one-man-band start-ups, to larger companies, these workshops aim to prove that, with the right training, any business can become a digital business.
Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond said: “The internet offers a wealth of exciting opportunities for Richmondshire’s wonderful businesses.
“I’ve spent most of my career helping entrepreneurs to realise their potential and, in the modern economy, using digital technology effectively is always crucial to achieving that.”
“I’m incredibly proud to be hosting Google’s experts in the constituency. The knowledge and experience they bring is a brilliant resource for local businesses and I would encourage as many as possible to sign up and get involved.”
The Digital Garage on tour has been designed to support and advise businesses regardless of their technical expertise – from complete tech novices creating their first website, through to improving an existing website and online marketing.
Eileen Naughton, Managing Director, Google UK, said: “The Internet is already playing an important role in helping companies of all sizes across the Richmondshire area reach new customers, manage marketing expenses and use data-driven consumer insights to help their business grow.
“We want to make sure this opportunity is open to all. Our goal at Google is to show UK businesses how easy it is to get online and turbo-charge their growth. We hope that businesses in and around Richmond will take advantage of these free digital training sessions.”
Businesses and entrepreneurs in the area can sign up for the free consultations and workshops at Holiday Inn, Scotch Corner, near Darlington, Darlington DL10 6NR, on November 27 from 11am-1pm.
