Rishi joined young rugby players at Northallerton RUFC as the new season got underway with a family fun day.
The MP joined a game of touch rugby with the club’s junior members before the 1st team’s opening match.
He spoke to the club’s junior coaching staff about their ambitions to bring more young players to the club where they offer opportunities to children as young as five.
Rishi said he was impressed by what he had seen and heard, and enjoyed taking a brief part in the training game with the junior players.
He said: “The club has an excellent set-up and facilities at Brompton, including a refurbished clubhouse.
“The enthusiasm and commitment of the junior coaches was very evident. The club offers a great opportunity for young people to get involved in a great sport in a supportive family environment.”
Gareth Essex, one of the junior coaches, said everyone at the club was delighted Rishi had attended and taken an active part in the juniors’ training session.
“We appreciate our MP’s support for what we are providing for young people. All our coaches are trained to provide a fun and safe environment for our young players and we are keen to welcome more.”
Young players interested in joining the 50 junior members already active at the club should contact Mr Essex on 07960 560604.
