Rishi talked about his favourite children’s books with a class of bookworms at Alverton Community Primary School in Northallerton.
The MP joined the school’s Reading Ambassadors to talk about their favourite reads and what he had enjoyed reading to his own children.
The Ambassadors, whose role it is to encourage other children in the school to read more, recommended two books to Rishi – one of which was a book of stories and little-known facts about the famous author Roald Dahl.
Rishi said Roald Dahl was his favourite author of children’s books and he had read many of his books to his two daughters. “I very much appreciate the recommendation as it is not a Dahl book I’m familiar with,” he said.
He added: “The Ambassadors were very enthusiastic about their reading and I am sure they are very effective champions for reading among their fellow pupils.”
The Ambassadors presented him with bookmarks as a memento of his visit.
Headteacher Richard Linsley said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Rishi into school and our Reading Ambassadors benefited from spending time with him and finding out about his favourite books.”
