Rishi has congratulated a Northallerton Tennis Club team on their league table success.
The MP called at the club’s Farndale Avenue base to present the Harrogate and District League Division Six trophy and medals to the club’s second team.
Team captain Tina Watson said it had been the mixed team’s most successful season since it was formed.
She said: “I formed the team a couple of years ago to offer players of all abilities and ages the opportunity to play league tennis and after a couple of seasons when we struggled it came good this year.”
It was also a successful season for the club’s first team which secured promotion from Division Three of the same league.
The club, which has about 90 members, is stepping up its efforts to make the sport more inclusive by offering the opportunity to play Pickleball – a simpler, less physically-demanding form of the sport which uses a smaller court size and smaller rackets, or paddles.
After presenting the trophy, Rishi tried his hand at Pickleball.
He said: “I congratulate Tina and her team, the club on its efforts to broaden the appeal of the sport and can recommend Pickleball as a way for people to try a form of tennis if they not played before. It’s great fun.”
