A packed week! Hustings, village halls, birthdays, canvassing...
I enjoyed the final hustings of the campaign at Richmond School. The mix of questions included the NHS, the youth vote, food banks, religion/politics, climate change, Europe, and pensioners. Surprisingly no questions on Immigration or the Economy, which alongside the NHS are the most common national policy areas people want to speak to me about. A lively end to the evening saw a twist on heckling - we had members of the audience heckling each other! Thanks to Revd Dickinson and his team for organising, and all at the school for the logisitcs.
Village halls at Catterick Village, Scotton, Middleham and Reeth. Great turnouts everywhere. In Catterick we discussed a lot of Forces issues and I was happy to have the opportunity to learn from people directly engaged with these important matters on a day to day basis.
Great weather blessed our canvassing across the constituency. It was a delight to be out and I think this week will have the record for miles travelled as we were at each end of the consituency at various points (a distance of some 70 miles!) It is great to see so many Conservative posters up everywhere we go - thanks everyone for your support.
Two highlights from the trail. One was helping a lost family of ducks get safely away from the traffic onto the field! The other was a great lunch at the Green Dragon Inn in Hardraw where owners Mark and Yvonne looked after us very well and showed us their William Hague sign!
On to the weekend and a double family birthday celebration!
