Dualling the A66

Making the A66 Trans-Pennine route a dual carriageway along its entire length has been a long-term objective.

It's the only way to deal with issues like the notorious Ravensworth junction.

Detailed design work on dualling the remaining single-carriageway sections like this has been completed and development approval granted in 2024. Work on the £1.4bn project should start in 2025.
